Homes and buildings in Coimbatore
Coimbatore has traditionally been a city of independent houses, and areas such as RS Puram, Saibaba Colony, Race Course and Ramanathapuram still have many of them, often with open terraces and first-floor balconies. In recent years apartment complexes and gated communities have spread quickly along Avinashi Road, in Peelamedu and Saravanampatti near the IT parks and colleges, and towards Vadavalli and Kovaipudur.
Independent houses and apartments in Coimbatore call for different work. Houses usually need terrace edges, staircases, sunshades and courtyards covered, each cut to an irregular shape, while apartments need neat balcony and duct nets that satisfy the residents' association.
Coimbatore's weather and the right materials
Coimbatore sits near the foot of the Western Ghats, close to the Palghat Gap, and is known for the steady winds that blow through the gap, especially in the south-west monsoon months. The climate is otherwise moderate, with a hot spell from March to May. Wind is the main local factor: nets must be tensioned firmly and anchored at close intervals so they do not flap and wear. 304-grade stainless steel is normally enough for invisible grills this far inland.
Pigeons and birds in Coimbatore
Pigeons, crows and mynas are common around Coimbatore's markets, mills and tree-lined residential streets. On independent houses they settle on sunshades, parapet ledges and under roof overhangs; in apartments they take over balcony corners and utility ducts. We cut each net to the actual shape of the opening, which matters most on older houses where nothing is quite square.
Child and balcony safety in Coimbatore
Open terraces without a full-height parapet and first-floor balconies with low railings are common on Coimbatore houses, and they are a real risk for small children. Safety nets suit these irregular openings well. In the newer apartment towers around Peelamedu and Saravanampatti, invisible grills are the more popular choice.
Drying clothes in Coimbatore homes
Many Coimbatore houses dry clothes on the terrace, where wind and sudden showers are a nuisance. A ceiling or wall-mounted hanger in a covered balcony or utility area keeps laundry sheltered, and apartments with small balconies gain back their floor space.
